Skin-Deep

Véronique Boissacq manages to lay bare the souls of her models, and expresses their vulnerability by showing respect for their character at all times and revealing the most hidden corners of their personalities. In this sense, her photographs are like reportages in which through the naked skin, we gain access to the intellectual, emotive and virtually spiritual dimension within.

The backgrounds do not exist and have no importance in these portraits. The models, as a proof of this desire for introspection, take up almost the entire space of the photograph, in which with unusual sincerity, without pretence, they abandon themselves to the requirements of a camera which is able to capture their innermost feelings. The analytical component of her images, the search for truth, sobriety, the concern for compositional details and other formal aspects, represent, together with the use of different kind of chemical tonin techniques, the main characteristics of her work.

As the artist herself confesses, this activity not only allows her to discover the more hidden side of her models, but also to monitor her own development. By using photography as a way to delving into reality and as a way of acquiring personal equilibrium, Veronique Boissacq has reached a breathtaking maturity that allows her to face the world with the subtlest, most revealing of looks.
